SXSW Random Encounter | The thing that makes SXSW special

There is really something special about the picture above and no it is not the Guinness float even though it was unique. The young lady in the picture is what is special. Her name is Shanna and she was our server at The Old Pecan St. Cafe off of 6th Street (A great restaurant by the way). She had a great sense of humor, she was cordial, and just cool. Later, she told us she was in this local Austin band called Obsolete Machines and they are playing a few shows during SXSW. Shanna gave us some CDs to take with us.
So earlier this evening, I put the CD in and gave it a listen. I have to say the music is real good, I mean real good. The point of this story is the new people you meet is what makes SXSW special. Don’t get me wrong, seeing and hearing all these great bands in one place is amazing. However, to run into someone at a restaurant, who happens to be in a band that you never heard of, and gives you a cd that turns out to be really good is really, really special. There are over 2,000 bands performing during SXSW. If you are down here, take time and see a band you never heard of, not just the bands and artists you want to see. You may be really surprised.
So check out a tune from this random gem from Austin called Obsolete Machines. To Shanna, thank you for your music and your hospitality.
