Dinosaur Feathers at SXSW!
Listen: Officially, the unbelievably dense SXSW Music experience doesn’t begin until Wednesday. Accordingly, there’s a healthy buzz around town, but the streets aren’t teeming like they’ll be in just a few short days. Every kind of band from every kind of place will be playing every kind of nook and cranny Austin has to offer, from dawn to dusk to dawn.
In the calm before the storm, I caught up with Dinosaur Feathers, a band that’s going to be about as busy as anybody this upcoming week. They’re playing 6 showcases, 1 of them official, and probably getting more high-fives than they can count on six hands. Greg, Derek, and Ryan, the members of Dinosaur Feathers, met me at a bar named Franks in downtown Austin to talk about SXSW, their plans for the future, their drink orders, Star Trek, and other pleasant digressions:

Hey! It turns out Dinosaur Feathers is coming to Milwaukee soon! In this clip, I ask them about coming to Milwaukee and quiz them on what the know about my hometown:

At the end of that last clip, I ask them to sing a cappella for me and it sounds like they don’t want to do it. Right? As things go, after their interview, we went out to the parking lot where they treated me to an impromptu performance of an excerpt form their song Family Waves (see Greg’s snarly a cappella face below):

Awesome! By the end of their concert there was a small crowd gathered behind us, who probably had no idea what was going on. Can’t wait to see them take the stage at SXSW!
